Description

Butyl acetate is a colorless and transparent liquid with a pleasant fruity odor. It is derived from Butan-1-ol. Vapors heavier than air and very soluble in water. Butyl acetate is naturally found in certain fruits and plants. It is a component of tobacco and tobacco smoke. Acute toxicity is small, but it has strong irritation to eyes and nose, and can cause anesthesia at high concentrations.
It is used in the manufacture of varnishes, artificial leather, film, plastics and as a solvent. It is approved for food packaging. It is an ingredient in nail polish and household repair products (such as tile grout).
