Dimethyl carbonate(DMC)is a clear, colorless, flammable, liquid with a pleasant ester-likeodor. It is a carbonate ester that is carbonic acid in which both hydrogens are replaced by methyl groups.Dimethyl carbonate(DMC)is a chemical raw material with low toxicity, excellent environmental performance and a wide range of uses. It is an important organic synthesis intermediate. Its molecular structure contains carbonyl, methyl, and Functional groups such as methoxy groups have a variety of reaction properties, and are safe to use, convenient, less polluting, and easy to transport in production.

Uses
1. DMC /dimethyl carbonate/ can be used in the synthesis of important pharmaceuticals, such as the antimicrobial ciprofloxacin (Cipro) where it is used in place of diethyl malonate, and in the preparation of guaifenesin, a precursor for the muscle relaxant, methocarbamol.
2. Used primarily in the synthesis of bisphenol A polycarbonates.
3. Environmentally benign substitute for dimethyl sulfate and methyl halides in methylation reactions for phosgene.
4. DMC /dimethyl carbonate/ is also finding increasing application in the field of rechargable lithium batteries as a nonaqueous electrolyte component, as well as a blowing agent in polyurethane foam.
