Potassium iodide is a colorless or white cubic crystal, odorless with a bitter and salty taste, hygroscopic. It is easily oxidized to liberate iodine and turn yellow when exposed to light or air. Its aqueous solution is neutral or weakly alkaline. It is an important raw material for inorganic iodides.
